I’m a geek Mom…but sometimes my kids get something digitally past me (not often). I was doing one of my quarterly calls to ATT to see how I could lower my bill and ended up making my little Princess nervous as I yelled, “What? Over $200 in charges to her phone.” We have billing set up automatically and recently quit getting paper bills. Somehow my hubby and I both overlooked examining the bill for the last couple of months. OH NO, I bet we now belong to over $200 worth of Justin Bieber and One Direction fan club crud. Calmly, the ATT Customer Service Rep, read me off some of the charges…coupon subscriptions and stuff she would never use. She was safe!
How can this be?
* You receive a spam text for a subscription and ignore it
* You automatically gets enrolled in this $9.99 or whatever price subscription while ignoring it
Of the 5 cell phones we own, hers is the only non-iPhone (she is the baby) and obviously had the most attacks. Phew – ATT credited all these charges back to us! We added a “free” block on her phone, so now she has to put a code in to buy any apps or music, but this will prevent further unsolicited charges!
New spam message instructions for the family… if you receive unwanted texts – REPLY STOP! ATT also asks you to forward them to 7726 to report them too.
I think New Jersey is really on to something, trying to ban and fine unsolicited texts!
The no text spam picture taken from this site – where they give a great warning – 10 digit phone number texts are Spam!

Holy cow! I get those unsolicited texts on my iPhone every few weeks…mostly telling me I won something. I usually ignore them but I won’t any more. Now I just have to figure out how to forward them so I can report them when they come in. hmmm…
Thanks for sharing Greta!!
I know – I always ignored them too!
I have a block on all premium text messages on all of our phones. I’m the uber-geek in this household and if I don’t need premium text messaging then nobody does.
You wait until they are teens…I will be laughing at you then! LOL!
