Does Yelp Need a Review?

One of the services I offer at Kickify, is to claim businesses ownership on a variety different platforms. This claiming process is clunky and time consuming for business owners to do themselves. But, I have created my own system and now get through the process as quickly and smoothly as possible. Enough about selling me…(LOL). The end result is to put the business in control of getting the proper information out there on the web and empower them with the ability to respond to their online reviews – both good and bad.

Yelp is something I put a lot of time and effort into as a consumer and for my clients. That being said, I was absolutely blown away, when one of my former clients called me this morning with an almost unbelievable story about how a Yelp salesperson treated him. He even used the word extortion in the conversation and swears that for a short time (no screenshots for proof), his good reviews disappeared. I did not get all the details as our phone conversation was cut short but we will surely discuss this in detail at a later date.

As soon as we hung up, I started Googling and found this Inc.com article about a 2010 lawsuit attempt towards Yelp. When I read this article, the allegation almost mirrored the conversation I had with my former client. I have not named him here as the last thing I want to do is bring him any problems nor have I contacted the salesperson who called him (yet). I certainly hope this was just a bad apple salesperson in a sea of good ones. I will get to the bottom of this for his sake. Sadly but understandably, he now believes Yelp is a horrible thing as this has obviously left him with a bad taste in his mouth.

I would never advise a client to “stick their head in the sand” when it come to their online reputation or reviews! As a consumer or business, what is your experience with Yelp?

Wow! I haven’t heard of that happening locally. Or is this a non-Louisiana based client? I’m a pretty dedicated yelper…because you know I have opinions…and as a reviewer I haven’t seen anything like this. Hopefully our local community manager will be in touch and set things right.

No, he is not local. I am sure we will get to the bottom of this and work it out though/
